The patch also contains a replacement file for your UnrealTournament.ini. You are encourage to use it instead of the original one. If you want to so simply rename it and copy it to your home directory. For example: $mv INSTALL_DIR/System/UnrealTournament.ini.428 INSTALL_DIR/System/UnrealTournament.ini $cp INSTALL_DIR/System/UnrealTournament.ini ~/.loki/ut/System -------------------- (3) PLAYING THE GAME -------------------- Run 'ut' to start the game. The first time you run Unreal Tournament it will create a ~/.loki/ut directory. Preferences, etc., will be stored here. ---------------------------- (4) LINUX SPECIFIC CHANGELOG ---------------------------- The new options in the UnrealTournament.ini file are [SDLGLDrv.SDLGLRenderDevice] UseS3TC // whether to use S3TC compressed textures UseAlphaPalette // set to 0 if you experience "black boxes" UseModulatedGamma // gamma hack for 0.94 NVIDIA drivers in conjunction with S3TC UseGammaExtenion // New "real gamma" option Use4444Textures // Improves performance on TNT and G400 but creates banding effects in menues OpenGL renderer - fixed fogging! - fixed banding problem in menues - removed hardcoded max texture size - added UseAlphaPalette option as a workaround for buggy drivers - added UseGammaExtension option - added UseModulatedGamma option - added Use4444Textures option - added support for S3TC compressed high quality textures (2nd CD) Glide renderer - fixed bug when user didn't have a GL lib installed - fixed garbled screen at exit on some machines Software renderer - added software renderer (Andrew) Input - fixed numpad support - fixed support for international keyboards - fixed bugs in Joystick code Sound - added ALAudio sound target (Joe) - fixed unknown mixing rate assertion Server - fixed ngWorldStats - fixed .ini files Filesystem - switched back to use "/" internally - fixed severe bug in my code Misc - added -nohomedir option - updated .ini files UCC - fixed "unrecognized option" in "ucc master" - 'fixed' segfault at exit UI - readded some 'noop' menu entries for compatibility with some mods ---------------- (5) KNOWN ISSUES ---------------- OpenGL Renderer - Z Buffer artifacts with 16 bit rendering - No detail textures (did anyone notice this before?) ------------------- (6) TROUBLESHOOTING ------------------- The following are some of the more common problems you might have, and recommended solutions. For more details see the support section on www.lokigames.com and visit our bug reporting system at http://fenris.lokigames.com. Q: The game segfaults when trying to use windowed mode with the Glide renderer. A: Glide doesn't support rendering in a window. Q: Most of the time when I connect to a server on the internet it starts downloading "multimesh". A: It is strongly advised that you install the official Bonuspack available at http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10044-108-58371.html?bt.dl-10008.EpicMegaGames.10044-108-58371 which includes the required files to play on most internet servers nowadays. Q: I am rendering in windowed mode and the mouse is grabbed in the window. A: You can press CTRL-G to change between grabbing or not. Alternatively you can change the UnrealTournament.ini file Q: The game crashes and I can't switch back to my normal resolution using CTRL-ALT- +/- A: After running "xvidtune -unlock" you can change resolutions normally. Q: I installed the Glide[OpenGL] Renderer as default but now want to use the OpenGL[Glide] renderer. Q: I want to use the Software Renderer. A: Edit the following lines in either (INSTALL_PATH)/System/UnrealTournament.ini or (HOME)/.loki/ut/System/UnrealTournament.ini To use the OpenGL renderer: [Engine.Engine] GameRenderDevice=SDLGLDrv.SDLGLRenderDevice WindowedRenderDevice=SDLGLDrv.SDLGLRenderDevice RenderDevice=SDLGLDrv.SDLGLRenderDevice To use the Glide renderer: [Engine.Engine] GameRenderDevice=GlideDrv.GlideRenderDevice WindowedRenderDevice=GlideDrv.GlideRenderDevice RenderDevice=GlideDrv.GlideRenderDevice To use the Software renderer: [Engine.Engine] GameRenderDevice=SDLSoftDrv.SDLSoftwareRenderDevice WindowedRenderDevice=SDLSoftDrv.SDLSoftwareRenderDevice RenderDevice=SDLSoftDrv.SDLSoftwareRenderDevice Global settings are made in (INSTALL_PATH)/... and local ones in your home directory. When you first run Unreal Tournament it will copy the version of UnrealTournament.ini from (INSTALL_PATH)/... to your home directory and from there on only use the one in your home directory. Q: How can I specify my OpenGL library? A: You can choose the OpenGL library Unreal Tournament tries to use by specifying the path to it in your UnrealTournament.ini [SDLGLDrv.SDLGLRenderDevice] OpenGLLibName=libGL.so.1 or OpenGLLibName=/opengl/library/path/libMYGL.so Q: I am using XF 4.0 with my 3dfx card and the textures look really weird. When I exit the game I can see a "No space for texture" error message. A: This is a bug in DRI that got fixed recently (07/31/00). You have to use the CVS version of DRI. Q: The towers seem to flicker in CTF-FACE. A: If you have a 3dfx card please choose the Glide renderer. Otherwise try to use 32 bit renderering which should resolve the issues you are seeing and also will enhance the display quality. ------------------------------------------ (7) CONTACTING LOKI ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE ------------------------------------------ Technical Support Support for Unreal Tournament for Linux is available from Loki Entertainment Software at: Bug Tracking Database: http://fenris.lokigames.com Email: support@lokigames.com Phone: 714-508-2140.
