\talk{En chinois dans le \TeX te}{Alain Cousquer}
Discusses the problems of, and some solutions to, including Chinese (hanzi)
characters in \TeX. The characters were bit-mapped rather than \MF ed. More
oriented towards including some Chinese in Latin texts than totally
typesetting in Chinese.


\talk{\LamsTeX\ -- un noveau formateur de Michael Spivak}{Laurent Siebenmann}
A review of Spivak's new package, which seeks to merge the functionality of
\AmSTeX\ with that of \LaTeX. Notes in particular the ability to create quite
complex commutative diagrams. Also discusses the relationship between this
package and `logical formatting', concluding that there is a great deal of
typographic markup in \LamsTeX, as well as structural markup (introducing the
idea of \LamsTeX\ as an `off-road vehicle', rather than a family sedan). Points
out some of the difficulties of using the package with some implementations of
\TeX\ -- purely from the point of view of |hash_size|s. The problem of
customisation to the French language is also discussed.

The paper summarises recent and coming events in the \TeX\ world, including
conferences, new books, improved electronic access to \TeX\ archives, new \TeX\
and \MF\ software, new font developments, and some noteworthy new \TeX\ output
hardware.

\talk{Manuels typographique conserv\'es au Mus\'ee de l'imprimerie de Lyon}{Alan
Marshall}Presents a list of  manuals relating to typography which are
to be found in the Library of the Lyons Printing and Banking Museum. The list
here begins in 1723 and includes titles, by, among others, Fournier, Didot and
Hansard.

\talk{Le\c cons de microtypographie: 1 -- emploi des capitales (Premi\`ere
partie)}{Jacques Andr\'e \& Jeanine Grimault}This note is concerned with the use
of capitals in French texts. Considers some of the rules employed in determining
whether a capital is appropriate. Also discusses the problem of diacriticals on
capitals.
